LA BOETIE Who would have thought that a rock band, would one day, be inspired by this 16th century philosopher and essay writer, contemporary and disciple of Montaigne. And yet, La Boétie, the band, composed of Elsa Fourlon (singer - electric guitar), Julien Decoret (chorus - bass) and Raphael Chassin (chorus - drums), has everything to claim the unsubdued and protestor heritage of the author of "Discours de la servitude volontaire": same desire to escape from the standard, the formats, the established codes. Same disrespectful attitude towards the polished world of "young" music, whose rebellious postures resemble today a publicity for a hairspray brand (for clean hair). It's about rock, energy, rhythmic pulsations, badly combed guitars, bass that bangs on your plexus, and drums which won't let you go. La Boétie is not a tranquil band. La Boétie - the philosopher and the band - is a salutary engagement for free creation. How to describe the alchemy of this unique band? It is almost impossible, so much the influences seem digested by this already major band. One will quote without insisting too much: Sonic Youth, for the sonic floods, The Who, for the powerful rhythmic and one will evoke - just to keep our reference marks - some brilliant contemporaries, like LCD Soundsystem or Tom Vek. It's useless to say that the amateurs of formatted rock are requested to abstain from coming, the evening when La Boétie will be in town. The music of this band is not made for them. On the other hand, for the others, it will be a very festive evening. Because La Boétie forms part of these musicians that you simply cannot miss, and that one follows - eyes, ears and heart - for a long time. The remaining thing to do is it to welcome La Boétie as the band we weren't waiting for anymore, unique, innovative, and free. (by Olivier Libaux) ... Based in Paris, France 3 musicians on stage |
