Syd Matters has plenty going for him: a loyal fanbase in France, a perfect troubadour's drawl, a sly European pout, a mole on his left cheek and a name that doubles as a self-affirming complete sentence.

Don't think he's letting the sunshine in on his sophomore release, though; Matters is sticking with the winning melancholia that pierced 2003's A Whisper And A Sigh and earned him the coveted CQFD prize (courtesy of French indie rag Les Inrockuptibles).

His music is a mixture of folk and of melancholic pop, his music combines slow melodys with acoustic instruments, it does not however forget its roots of electronic music.

He started his performing career playing at small bars until being noticed by Third Side Records and signed to a recording contract. This resulted in his first album, A Whisper and a Sigh, which was recorded during the summer of 2002. After this album was released, Matters constructed a new four-piece band and in April 2005 released his second album, Someday We Will Foresee Obstacles. A mixture of folk and melancholic pop, his music combines slow melodies with acoustic instruments while holding true to its roots in electronic music.

His third album, 'Ghost Days', has been released on January 18th to much applause.
